Anchorage Memories is all about preserving your memories of growing up and living in a special place called Anchorage, Alaska.
And one of the most popular Anchorage Memories are those relating to that wonderful movie palace, the 4th Avenue Theatre.
Austin Eugene “Cap” Lathrop was the driving force behind the second movie theatre in Anchorage. That’s right, the first theatre was the Empress just up the street from the 4th Avenue Theatre.
Can you imagine what Cap Lathrop might say if he knew how much people still love the 4th Avenue Theatre after all these years?
You’ll enjoy this past Anchorage Memories VIP Club look Cap Lathrop’s creation.
Take a look at the Anchorage 4th Avenue Theatre and enjoy.
Our precious 4th Avenue Theatre was a grand palace where Alaska was celebrated in remarkable wall panels and the auditorium ceiling was covered with the lights of the Big Dipper and the great North Star.
And remember that grand staircase from the first floor to the second? It made young girls feel like a Princess or a movie star as they walked up or down those stairs.
And when the lights began to dim, those plush curtains began to part and the movie filled that silver screen, you were transported into a spectacular world of adventure, drama, and fun that you will remember forever.
Yes, your memories of the 4th Avenue Theatre do live on. From standing on the sidewalk, looking at the posters for movies you could see on your next visit, to the wonderful aroma of popcorn as you entered the plush lobby.
Treasure Your Memories
You can still enjoy the 4th Avenue Theatre anytime you want to. It’s in that treasure chest of cherished memories you keep in your heart.
Those memories do get dimmer and dimmer with each passing year and like a misty water color painting, our precious memories fade over time. But that’s just fine.
