Have you ever heard of Bettles, Alaska? The story of Bettles is a tale of a man from Montana and two tiny towns near the Arctic Circle.
Yep, I swam at the Spa. I heard someone built an underground running track around there some years ago. Would be interesting to find out if that's true. Also swam at the pool at Stuckagain Heights and ski patrolled at Don Cconrads Lincoln powered rope tow. As I recall Stuckagain was run by Marge ?
I knew there WAS a Bettles, but I had never heard or read the story. Fascinating! :-D
Never knew the history about Bettles, thanks for sharing!

I must take exception to the comment "By 1930 residents moved the town five miles east to a military airport left abandoned..." That could not have been the case. The military had NO airfields in Alaska prior to the build up to World War Two in 1940. Even Anchorage didn't have an airport proper (what became Merrill Field) until 1931. Something is off here.
