My memories of Spenard are wonderful. Our band played at the original Electric Eye on Wendy Way before moving to Old Seward Hiway, which turned into Angels, Gussies, Billiard Palace and Hot Rods. We were also the house band for The Lake Shore Club, which became The Fancy Moose, The Flying Machine, etc. The Youngbloods with Jesse Collin Young played there and named a song for beautiful Lake Spenard on their album. The year of the Kenai fire was a beautiful summer, the sun was bright red and was visible from Earth Quake Park. There was a light show held there! Our band opened up for Jefferson Airplane at West High and for Big Brother and The Holding Company at The Armory. I could go on and on, but that’s enough for now!

Thank you. I love learning about Alaska, a state I lived in for almost 50 years and where my father was raised. My grandparents, William (Bill) and Jessie Keller moved to Alaska in 1921. He was in education until his retirement in 1963.
